I'm the historian for the Palatine Barony of the Far West in the Society for Creative Anachronism. I have inherited a bunch of old newsletters that I'm working on digitizing and putting online to promote access. It is really important to me professionally that I make these as accessible as possible so everyone can enjoy these cool artifacts. I have been using adobe scan, creating a pdf, running OCR, cleaning that up as best as possible, and then using the rest of the accessibility check and fixing all of that. It's... fine. There are some issues, but now I'm running into some truly old ones from the 80s. 80s, Xeroxed to heck and back, with "Medieval" fonts. The OCR isn't recognizing the text at all for most of the file. I've tried converting them to .TIFF images and running the OCR from there, but it's just too bad. I need ideas on where to go from here. Make a second document that is just the text so screen readers can read it? Is there a way to insert an invisible note that I can insert into the reading order? I'm stuck, y'all.

I've become quite familiar with the scientific literature of this area, but since it is expanding so rapidly I would love to join some sort of online group (following a certain social media account, joining a discord, subscribing to a newsletter etc. ?) that keeps me updated on the latest clinical studies that have been published. Do you guys have any tips or ideal places to go? Thanks guys :) I'm quite optimistic and captivated with the direction this area is heading in !!!

So I'm helping a friend out with their wordpress site. They started a blog that does not have many subscribers yet. They're looking for these basic features 1. Collects emails easily with a subscribe button 2. Sends an automatic email out to subscribers as soon as they publish a new post (or can be triggered) But the most complicated feature set but can't seem to find the best one. Was looking as mailchimp free but it seems to only offer automation via their paid version.
