Trading in the forex market involves the buying of one currency and the sale of another. You make money when you purchase lower priced foreign currency and re-sell higher priced foreign currency. It goes the other way around as well. You lose money when you purchase too much currency and sell too little.

Questions on relationships between the stock market and forex
The only thing I know about this Avenue of stocks is how to trade long term, that I have been successful in. But I was interested in day trading. And I wanted to learn all the ways people predict if the price is going up. So where would be a good place to start? Is it baby pips? That you learn forex on. So if I master forex on baby pips then will it carry over to my stock market day trading? Or how does that work?

Difference between a Money Market Savings and Savings Account? (OSA)
Hi all. this sounds like a basic question to me but I haven't found an answer in the tool bar, PD or my bank website itself (VioBank). I have an online savings account with them but I see that their money market account is currently offering 3% higher interest rate (4% vs 1%). My account is primarily for emergency fund/maybe a home downpayment someday (probably at least 3-5 years out the way the market is). My question is what's the different between money market or standard savings account and is there any reason why I shouldn't just put all the money in a money market account for the higher interest? Thanks.

does this new policy work? by changing how much you earn if you sell $1 worth of goods? Okay so lets say we have a society of ten people each selling a different type of icecream at the same price. With Alice selling Chocolate icecream for $2, Bob selling Vanilla icecream for $2 ... All of them want to taste all other types of icecream. If all of them buy all other icecreams, the money they have will be equal to what it was before. So even if lots of icecream was consumed, the total amount of money and how much money each person has remains the same. So money is something that represents how much someone has contributed to the society minus how much stuff they have gotten from the society? Or in other words their production minus their consumption. Why dont we have a more fundamental measure of how much someone has helped the society? Arent we losing information if we only pay attention to the difference of two variables instead of considering them both? Should someone who sells 10 icecreams and buys 6 be financially similar to someone who sells 5 but only buys 1? In both cases they will be both earning the same amount of money but should this be true? Why should we value resource consuption and production linearly? Why not make equations to control how much we want to encourage consumtion or discourage it and then money could be the difference between these two equations. Something like this: The money you have in you bank = f(the value of everything you have ever sold) - g(the value of everything you have ever bought) For example if the governments wants to encourage more consumption we can make f and g be: f(x) = x g(x) = x * 0.99999 If you buy one icecream, the seller gets $2 but you will only lose $1.99998. This makes it a non-zero-sum transaction. If you sell them 1 icecream. You will both be a tiny bit richer. In this arrangement, the central bank doesnt need to inject money into economy since the society itself will be producing lots of money through transactions. So maybe the fed needs to set the inflation high or remove some money from the circulation. Anyways this seems like an interesting scenario to analyse. Or for example we can have: f(x) = x * 0.99999 g(x) = x Which means if you sell an icecream for $2 you will earn only $1.999 for it, even if they will lose $2. This also produces some interesting scenarios. What if you want to discourage over-consumtion? then make g(x) = x * 1.00001 ** x Want to encourage rich billionaires spending all their money? f(x) = x * 0.999999 ** x Although the equations above might produce lots of weird issues, I feel like a more nuanced choice of equations might be an interesting way to rethink the relationship between how much you have helped society, how much help you have consumed, and how much money is in your bank account. The governments will have so many more degrees of freedom to change policies this way. It must be better right? What do you think? Do you think this system works?

I'm really getting interested in learning more about economics lately and I'm hoping that one day, if I can afford it, The Terminal will always be my go to source of information. Can you make a consistent profit by trading on the Forex market, or is it more like gambling where you could lose your money very quickly?
There is no guarantee that you will be consistently profitable. Forex is high risk and you can potentially lose your entire investment. Trading is not for those looking for a safe way to make a decent return. If you blindly enter the market without thoroughly backtesting a strategy it will definitely be considered gambling. When you apply a system that has performed well in the past this gives you a strategic advantage. Any system you a trying should also be thoroughly tested on a demo account first. Look at the inverse relationship between assets and interest rates… add QE to that as well in recent years… as inflation remains more sticky than the market thought, we are on a path to price discovery for bonds… this will set the price of other assets… or Fed prints and people starve…
