How did the Roman cursus honorum collapse in the 5th century? Was it ever restored (even in modified form) in medieval Europe?

Before starting the cursus honorum, aspiring Roman politicians had to serve in the army. Were these young men really likely to be killed or injured during their years of service ?

The Cursus Honorum, Paradox style game that focuses on managing a family in Republic Rome.
If you are unfamiliar, the Cursus Honorum was a series of public offices that you had to climb to get to the highest offices, like consul or governors in Republic Rome.
In this game you would manage your family, controlling them over time sort of in a way like Crusader Kings but with the main goal to be climbing the political ladder while growing your family's wealth and prestige for next generations as they die.
You would be playing as the family, and like in Rome, these ranks had certain conditions with one being age so whether it is the parent or child or grandchild you would simultaneously be working on their ascent through the cursus honorum
Some may have short or long military careers depending on your goals and how many members you have, whether there is a war, land to be conquer etc
You would manage your holdings and wealth while using your resources to climb the political ladder and use your office to benefit your family, You would have other families that might become hostile towards you and try to thwart your rise. Civil Wars, outside threats.
Once you gain enough power over centuries then maybe your family would be the one to found the Roman Empire.

So, is Cursus Honorum in our out?
Now that a bunch of people have their hands on the game and have released a ton of videos playing it, I'm still left unsure as to whether the Cursus Honorum (or a simplified version of it) is in the game?

Would the United States benefit from a formalized Cursus Honorum for holding political office?
I’m going to give the details of the Roman institution short shrift; if you are interested in history and want fine detail, there are many good sources. Suffice it to say, that during the Roman Republican period, the Cursus Honorum, or “course of honor,” was a series of progressively more powerful offices that had minimum age requirements and which required a candidate to hold the lower offices before being eligible for higher ones. This was the way that the Roman Constitution regulated the political ambition of young politicians and progressively trained them to the functions and duties of governance. Arguably, this legal and traditional restriction on access to the higher offices ensured stable governance, protected against populist tyranny, and created a resevoir of administrative, military, and legal talent the State could draw upon to meet the challenges of guiding the State wisely.
In the Republican era, you did not have incompetents, scoundrels, and the power-mad wielding supreme power by the inheritance or usurpation of imperium like what happened when the Republic was in its death throes, and during the Imperial Period that followed it.
The earliest age a Roman could seek one of the two Consul seats (the head of State) was 40 or 42 depending on his ancestry.
That candidate for Consul would have to have previously held offices that required him to fulfill a wide range of state duties: financial duties related to taxes, military operations, and the state treasury; political duties as a member of the Senate; administrative duties related to public infrastructure, buildings, and events; legal duties in the Roman courts; military command duties over Roman legions, and in direct governance of a Roman province; and ceremonial and religious duties throughout his career. A candidate for the Consulship understood, or at least had some experience in, the full range of functions of the Roman State. There were some uninspired Consuls in during the Republic, but there were very few embarrassingly incompetent or stupid ones, which might help account for why a small village rose to rule most of the known world.
The US Constitution, like the mos maiorum or "way of our ancestors" which was the equivalent of the unwritten Roman Constitution, stipulates age requirements for holding public office: 25 for election to the House of Representatives, 30 for election to the Senate, 35 for election to the Presidency. It doesn't, however, stipulate any requirement that for election to successively higher offices that the person seeking election must have been elected to lower office first. So, for example, would it be beneficial to make changes to the Constitution to require that all newly elected US Senators first have held office as a US Representative? Or that to be eligible to seek the office of President of the United States a candidate must first have been elected a US Senator or Governor of a State?

The Cursus Honorum
The Cursus Honorum was the ladder of political offices in Rome consisting of 3/4 one year terms that was the centre stone of Roman politics. Each position was elected giving it some semblance of a democracy (a very small one at that). In order for one to become a senator they had to be elected into the first office, a quaestor, essentially an apprenticeship. However, in order to run for this position one had to be at least 30 years old. I assume to allow time to gain enough experience in life. Once their one year term was over they would be formally inducted into the senate. After being a quaestor, one could run for aedile (mid 30s), however this was typically not mandatory. This office placed the person in charge of the management of public buildings, food supple and the organisation of public games, which could make them very popular with the masses. After this was the position of praetor (age 39) and acted as judges. They had the power to convene the senate and command legions, thus they could influence the affairs of the state. The final position was that if consul (age 42) and they were essentially the heads of state, with the ability to veto bills and command full armies. To show the importance of this seat, years were told by the reign of the 2 current consuls. E.g I was born in the reign of x + y.
Over the coming weeks I’ll discuss these offices in more details as well as that it censor, tribune of the plebs and pontifex maximus!

When was the cursus honorum implimented?
You always hear a lot of talk about the strict nature of the cursus honrum, but really how long was in effect in the sense of distinct age boundaries for each rank and having to be quaestor before praetor ect.

The Cursus Honorum and managing Statecraft
Hey all-
Was working through how to manage statecraft during a Rome play through and figured out the following statecraft gain values per month from the tool tips:
Ruler Consul (+0.80) Co-Consul (+0.50)
Oratory Offices Censor (+0.80) Praetor (+0.70) Oratory Researcher (+0.25)
Military Offices Tribunus Militum (+0.80) Praefectus Militaris (+0.80) Military Researcher (+0.25) Commander, Legion/Navy (0)
Religious Offices Augur (+0.60) Pontifex Maximus (+0.80) Religious Researcher (+0.25)
Civic Offices Tribunus Plebis (+0.80) Vulnerarius (+0.50) Civic Researcher (+0.25) Governors (+0.35)
“Grateful” families and various personality traits further modify it (+0.10) The accrued statecraft level then serves as the decay value. For example:
Consul Sempronius Sophus, Sempronii Clan (0.80 Consul value gain + 0.10 Scholar + 0.10 Grateful) -> 1.00 - (0.56 Current Statecraft level) = 0.44 statecraft gain per month
Therefore, knowing this you want to develop young leaders this way or similarly:
Reseacher > Governor > Vulnarius/Augur > Major Office > Command > Ruler > Major Office/Commanf/Governorship until age 70
I use the pol likely to be the next ruler and put them in a fleet or legion and theater suiting their Military talent. Then I try to get them a triumph if they are a party I like (civic/mercantile/military are all kosher IMO)
What do you do?
