TD Ameritrade ThinkorSwim Forex Spread is Better than that of OANDA's, am I right?
The followings are my records of real-time spreads of TOS's forex pairs. I read many reviews online, almost all of them think that OANDA's spreads are smaller than TOS's. However, since I am trading forex using both TOS and OANDA at the same time live, I found it is not true. In most of time, TOS's spread is better than OANDA's. At least, OANDA's spread is not better than TOS's as posted by many Forex trading review posts. Since I still can not get my FOREX.COM account work, I wonder if anyone use FOREX.COM could share the experiences of the realtime spreads? Realtime spreads from other trading platform could be better than TOS's? Please share your observations to help me and others in this forum. Thank you and have a nice weekend! Anyone using Charles Cottle's Sling Shot Hedge to protect their stock positions?
The idea is to use some call spreads to finance the purchase of a protective put. Compared to a collar, this yields less angst if the stock goes to the moon. Another benefit is reduced margin if you are hedging a portfolio of stocks with some index or ETF options. A "collar" would technically require naked options. I wonder how this works in practice.
I'm trying to find information about using Forex on Mobil Thinkorswim app and it seems I cant find anything. Very few videos (many years ago on desktop app not mobil) or Q/A forums or groups.
Anybody have a website to learn more on Forex on Thinkorswim?
If I hit the trade button on any currency. It takes me into order editor. If I go to side where it gives me the option to buy or sell the currency to open. If I make an order to buy. I am saying that I think the currency will go up therefore making money when the price is going up. If I make an order to sell. I am saying that I think the currency will go down therefore making money when the price is going down.
Is that true?
When I choose a side of either buy/sell, it only let's me buy in 10,000 quantity. It wont let me buy lower than that which is fine. And I hit confirm. It takes me to the order confirmation. At the very button it tells me Forex Buying Power Effect $xxxxxxxxx and below that Resulting Buying Power for Forex $xxxxxxxxxx. They both are the same amount. Is that everything I have to do to start a trade?
couldn't find much on here about it, just curious if anyone here used thinkorswim to trade forex? FXCM is killing me with commissions the way i scalp and have been looking for alternatives. I know ToS isnt really known for its forex trading but the free comissions looks appealing not. any experience on the execution speed etc with it?
Can't seem to get any data from the Forex comission pairs anymore, just the noncomission data. What's up with this, same for everyone else? If so any reason??
Trading forex with Thinkorswim platform, how to set up conditional orders for protection?
I started playing around with trading forex. I use TDameritrade thinkorswim plateform. Let me give a scenario and perhaps you can help me: Let's say I want to short GBP/USD. I first put a market sell order and get in at 1.22. I think it will go down so I put in a buy limit order at 1.2, hoping to make a profit of 0.02 in the trade when GBP/USD goes down. However, to protect myself from a potential significant loss, I also would like to put in a buy stop order at 1.24 (so if it goes up instead of down as I am predicting). How do I put in these two orders so that if one is triggered, the other order will be voided? I hope I am clear, any advice would be appreciated.

Your TD Ameritrade Account Is About To Vanish — What To Do Now
If you've been trading on TD Ameritrade, get ready to say goodbye. TD Ameritrade clients are being notified now their accounts are being moved into Charles Schwab (SCHW) starting next year. It's a long-awaited move after Schwab bought TD Ameritrade in 2019. But until now, the two trading platforms operated separately, as before. But that's changing starting on a rolling basis in the beginning of next year. "We're nearing the point where two great firms become one and TD Ameritrade clients become Schwab clients," wrote Jonathan Craig, head of investor services, in a note to clients this week. A Schwab spokeswoman confirmed the move. "Yes, the retail client transition process is anticipated to begin with a relatively small number of client accounts in February 2023, over Presidents Day weekend," said Schwab spokeswoman Margaret Farrell. What does this mean? The rubbing out of a major online brokerage further consolidates the industry that investors count on. It's also reduces the number of Best Online Brokers to choose from. TD Ameritrade, founded in 1971 as Ameritrade, was a pioneer in online trading, responsible for making trading affordable and accessible to the masses.
What About Thinkorswim?
Savvy traders are most concerned about the future of Thinkorswim. Thinkorswim is a sophisticated trading platform that attracted many TD Ameritrade clients. As promised at the time of the buyout, Schwab says Thinkorswim "is here to stay" and will migrate to Schwab later in 2023, the letter says. Schwab is also vowing to keep commissions low, which are already free for most stock trades. "By leveraging the combined strength of both companies, we'll be able to offer you even more pricing improvements," the letter said. "You have our commitment that the fee schedule for online trading commissions and fees at Schwab will be the same or lower for all transactions," the letter said.
More Changes For TD Ameritrade Clients
Schwab vows to minimize disruption by moving accounts from TD Ameritrade into "one of several groups." Customers will get three months notice of the move prior to it happening. It will also do the moves over a weekend. A small number of accounts will move in February 2023, over Presidents Day weekend. A larger number of accounts will move in three following groups over the course of 2023: Memorial Day weekend, Labor Day weekend and a weekend in early November. TD Ameritrade customers will need to sign up for new Schwab usernames and passwords to access their accounts. More than 400 physical Schwab branches will be available to TD Ameritrade customers.
