I'm very proud to present to you We Who Are About To Die! My name is Jordy, I've been solo developing a gladiator RPG/Roguelite for 7 years now and it releases tomorrow in Early Access. I also happen to be self-published, so I rely alot on posts like these. This game is my answer to the huge lack of gladiator games (in my opinion) especially since the golden days / childhood classics of mine like Shadow of Rome and Colosseum: Road To Freedom. The game is a bit like if those games along Exanima and Mount & Blade (combat wise) had a baby.

This game is my attempt at making the ultimate gladiator game, and my ultimate Roguelite. In a lot of ways this is also a spiritual succesor to especially Colosseum: Road to Freedom. If you're not sure of some of this stuff, just try the demo! The demo is very open -- its basically the full game untill level 6 because I believe in try-before-you-buy and I know the unusual mechanics might not be for everyone. No shenanigans here.
Unique mechanics
I tried my best to design a game full of interesting and unusual mechanics. In the game you are always fully in control of your character and can design a combat style of your own. Any attack and movement inputs can be combined in any way. The game requires practice and patience to get used to. For most people it will kick their ass for a good while, but when it starts to click, everything changes. This was my goal from the start (although it's not the best business move, I hope the average gamer will not hate this).

What was your lowest point in this career, and how did you manage to turn things around?
I’m still in university, worrying about not getting an internship because I don’t practice leetcode as often as others do. I’ve been thinking about that quote of “Comparison is the thief of joy” and then I just feel like working at my own pace is the best way. But I feel like my lowest point is going to come at one point, and probably some other people are already in their lower point. So I want to ask everyone who has experienced their lowest point and how they turned it around to give others, and myself, some inspiration/ideas on how we can get our career back on the line. Is there anyone who has managed to get a career in psychology without financial backing, and who had to rely only on themselves and student loan?
Long story short: my life was turned upside down because of the war, I fled from Ukraine to Canada this spring , and since then trying to sort out my emigrants life and getting through Post-traumatic syndrome & reactive depression. I have no words to describe how much my wonderful therapist helps me and make my life just possible to live again. Another thing that help me coping for nine months is reading a variety of psychology literature. (Viktor Frankl literally helped me not to go crazy in the bomb shelter). And I found it very interesting. In fact, I always found psychology interesting, but my parents couldn't afford to pay my tuition, and we don't have student loans in our country. But I found out that once I get PR status in Canada, I can also get a student loan. And I don't know, I just had a thought that stuck with hope: What if I can do that in Canada? The only thing that looks like a real challenge: I have no one to rely on. There is no one to back me up financially. What do you think about it? If all goes well, I can get a PR in about 1.5 years. And I'll be 23 by then. And used to work as a project manager at Animation Studio before war started. Just to you to have a more clearer picture of me :) P.s The story was not short ! But I would be grateful for any advice:)

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on a slight career pivot. I’ve been working for the last 8 years or so in content / design strategy, editing, and learning design, most of it in the digital realm. I consider myself an information professional, but am interested in moving into a more proper info science career. My main interests are knowledge management and digital curation—namely, organizing and increasing access to digital resources. I would love some advice from folks in this field! For context, I live in a major US city, and got an MA in design research back in 2015. I have a great job in content development for a design studio, and a pretty strong network in the art / tech / design worlds. I find myself drawn back to these info sci topics again and again. I’ve been toying with the idea of an MLIS for years but have been a little scared off by this sub. (I do love school though.) I’m wondering if anyone who works in this part of the info field can shed some light on whether an MLIS is necessary and what kind of jobs might await me afterwards?
